What is Memorize?
Memorize is a registered medical application (FDA-listed) designed for cognitive memory training. It focuses on working memory, attention, and recall while combining cognitive tasks with simple motor responses.
Clinicians use Memorize to train and assess a patient’s ability to encode, retain, and retrieve information over time under varying levels of difficulty.
What does the app include?
Memorize is a memory-based selection game built around item recall.
Game flow
- A list of items is presented on the screen.
- The patient is asked to memorize the items as accurately as possible.
- Once the list disappears, items begin appearing on conveyor belts.
- The patient must select only the items that appeared on the original list.
Interaction method:
Select items by touching them with the controller.
Settings and parameters
Memorize sessions can be customized to match the patient’s cognitive capacity and therapeutic goals.
Start with tutorial
- A tutorial runs automatically the first time the application is used.
- The tutorial can be replayed by selecting Show tutorial.
Game presets
Presets automatically configure multiple parameters:
- Easy
- Medium
- Hard
Presets affect:
- List exposure time
- Task length
- Speed level
- Dynamic speed
- Feedback
Items to memorize
- Select the number of items the patient must memorize (1–15 items).
List exposure time
- Defines how long the item list is visible before the task begins.
- Range: Flash (0.5 sec) to 20 seconds, or No limit (patient advances manually).
Task length
- Defines how long items are distributed across the session (20–180 seconds).
- Longer task length increases memory demand by forcing longer retention.
Number of conveyor belts
- Select 1–4 belts.
- Items appear randomly across belts, increasing attentional demand as belts increase.
Speed level
- Select belt speed (1–8).
Dynamic speed
- When enabled:
- Two consecutive successful tasks increase speed and add one additional item to memorize.
- Two consecutive unsuccessful tasks reduce speed and remove one item.
Feedback
- When enabled, each selection is followed by audio and visual feedback.
- When disabled, feedback is shown only at the end of the session.
Textual description
- Displays a text label alongside each item on the list, supporting verbal encoding strategies.
Hand selection
- Choose Right, Left, or Both hands for item selection.
Session duration
- Select session duration (1–10 minutes).
- Duration reflects net gameplay time (excluding list exposure and summary screens).
- Sessions can be paused or stopped at any time.
Pause menu
Pressing the Pause button on the left controller will pause the session and open the Pause menu, where the patient can:
- Control the volume
- Restart the level
- Finish the session
- Resume the session
Session results
At the end of the session, the summary screen displays:
Performance results
- Final score: Combined score based on accuracy, memory span level, and dynamic speed bonuses
- Highest number of items: The maximum number of items successfully memorized and selected
Summary graph
- Displays performance across games within the session
- Each bar represents one game and shows:
- Success: Correct item selected the first time it appears
- Recovery: Correct item selected after reappearing
- Mistake: Item selected that was not on the list
If more than five games were played, the last five are shown, with navigation available to review earlier games.
Clinician note: Session results are available at any time in the Clinician Platform, under the Reports tab.
When should clinicians adjust settings?
- If the patient struggles to remember items → reduce list size or increase exposure time
- If performance is consistently high → increase task length, speed, or number of items
- If the patient is overwhelmed → reduce number of belts or disable dynamic speed
