What is Mindset?
Mindset is a registered medical application (FDA-listed) designed to support pain and stress management through guided learning, immersive training, and relaxation content in VR.
Clinicians use Mindset to help patients learn coping techniques, practice them interactively, and reinforce skills through guided imagery, training exercises, and relaxation videos.
What does the app include?
Mindset includes three main modules:
- Paths – Guided learning paths for pain and stress management
- Training Room – Interactive practice of learned techniques
- Explore – Relaxation and meditation video library
It is recommended to use the application while sitting down.
Paths module (guided learning)
What are Paths?
Paths are structured learning journeys that introduce patients to pain and stress management techniques using voice guidance, guided imagery, and video content.
Path experience
- First-time users are guided through an introductory tutorial explaining the app’s purpose and usage.
- Each path is composed of three steps.
- When entering a path:
- An opening narration introduces the topic
- A video presents the core technique
- A closing narration reinforces key takeaways
Progress and completion
- Completing a path step unlocks a corresponding Training Room level, allowing patients to practice what they learned.
- After completing all three steps:
- The path is marked as complete
- The patient is invited to explore additional paths
- Patients who exit a path can continue from where they left off.
Path rating
- After completing a path, patients may rate their experience on a 1–5 scale.
Rating is optional and can be skipped.
Training Room module (interactive practice)
Training Room experience
- The Training Room becomes available once at least one training level is unlocked.
- Patients select training levels from a menu that includes:
- A room selector
- A level selector
- Hovering over menu items reveals level descriptions and icon explanations.
Training levels
- Each level is an interactive gaze-based experience.
- Patients activate 3D objects and visual effects using their gaze.
- Visual feedback reflects the goal of the learned technique (e.g., calmer environments, relaxed visuals).
Key points:
- Training duration is not time-limited.
- Patients may exit training at any time.
- The UI can be hidden for a more immersive experience, while exit options remain accessible.
Explore module (relaxation content)
Explore experience
- Patients can browse playlists of relaxation and meditation videos.
- Each video thumbnail indicates whether the content is 360°.
Video features
- Continue watching: Resume videos from where the patient left off.
- Progress indicator: Previously watched videos display a progress bar.
- Search: Find specific videos by name.
- Offline viewing: Download videos to the headset for offline use.
Watching videos
- Patients can pause, seek, replay, or exit videos at any time.
- Near the end of a video, patients may choose to continue to the next video in the playlist or exit.
Audio and music
- Music can be turned off completely.
- Volume can be adjusted independently in each module.
Pause menu
Pressing the Pause button on the left controller will pause the session and open the Pause menu, allowing the patient to:
- Quit the current experience
- Resume the session
- Replay content
- Access module-specific options
When should clinicians recommend Mindset?
- For patients experiencing chronic pain or stress
- When learning and practicing coping strategies is clinically appropriate
- For patients who benefit from guided education followed by practice
- As a complement to other therapeutic interventions
