Relax8 – Clinician Guide
What is Relax8?
Relax8 is a registered medical application (FDA-listed) designed to support relaxation, stress reduction, and breathing regulation through guided meditation and paced breathing exercises in VR.
Clinicians use Relax8 to help patients practice relaxation techniques, manage stress, and improve breathing awareness in a calm, immersive environment.
What does the app include?
Relax8 includes two main modules:
Meditation module
- Guided meditation sessions experienced in calming VR environments.
- Designed to support relaxation, mindfulness, and emotional regulation.
- Recommended to use the application while sitting down.
If a patient asks: “What should I do during meditation?”
→ Tell them to sit comfortably, follow the voice guidance (if enabled), and remain relaxed in the environment.
Breathing module
- Based on the “Lazy Eight” breathing technique.
- The patient follows a butterfly moving along a figure‑8 path while breathing in and out in sync with its motion.
- Left side of the figure‑8 → Breathe in
- Right side of the figure‑8 → Breathe out
- The exercise combines paced breathing with visual tracking to encourage calm, rhythmic breathing.
Game flow and interaction
Meditation
- The patient listens to guided meditation while remaining in a natural VR environment.
- Sessions are passive and do not require controller interaction.
Breathing
- The patient points at the butterfly using the controller while following its movement.
- Speed can be increased or decreased during the session.
