What does it mean?
Each time a patient launches XRPortal, the app checks for updates to ensure it runs the most recent version. The download speed depends on the patient’s internet connection and may take some time.
If the estimated download time exceeds 3–4 minutes, a “Skip update for now” button will appear. This allows the patient to enter XRPortal without completing the update — but any content that is not updated will not appear in the XRPortal Library.
As the clinician, you may need to guide your patient depending on whether they have time to wait for the update to finish.
What to tell your patient to do
If the patient has time
- Ask the patient to leave the headset on and allow the update to finish.
- Important: If the patient removes the headset, it will enter standby mode and the update will pause.
If the patient does not have time
- Advise the patient to click “Skip update for now.” This will allow them to enter XRPortal and continue their session.
- Note: The update will restart the next time they launch XRPortal. If they continue skipping it, they will need to press Skip every time until they allow the update to complete.
Clinician Portal behavior (real-time launch)
When you attempt to launch content in real time to a device that is out of date, the Clinician Portal will display a message indicating that the device needs updates.
Advise your patient to wait for the update to finish before attempting another real-time launch.
Important
If the patient previously launched XRPortal before it finished updating, they may see a system message when selecting XRPortal from the launcher screen. Tell them to click “Wait for update to finish” before launching the app.
Tips for very long download times
If the update is taking unusually long, recommend that your patient:
- Check their Wi-Fi connection quality.
- Move closer to the router.
- Switch to a different Wi-Fi network.
- Try connecting to a mobile hotspot.
A stronger connection typically results in faster updates.
